The San Francisco 3DS Max Users Group meets once a month at the SFSU campus down town, situated at 425 Market
Street (at Fremont). The people who attend come from all areas of the industry (studios to "new media"
shops) and all levels of ability (professionals to hobbyists). But we've all got one thing in common - we
all use or dig 3DS Max!
The support we get from industry sponsors (such as ID8Media,
Digimation, and Discreet
to name a few), is fantastic. Through their generosity we frequently get previews of the very latest max plugins,
the insider scoop on 3DS Max/Discreet development, and just about the most awesome door prizes you can imagine!
And entry is FREE 'cos now we're sponsored by the great guys at ID8Media
(plug, plug, plug... :)
Highlights of the group for me have been:-
Sneak previews of 3ds Max and max plugins often way before they're
officially released to the public.
Gordon McIver of Rebel Sun Lighting came in and rigged a full studio lighting setup, which we then mirrored in Max (and you
thought you knew everything about 3-point lighting...)
The annual image and animation contest - with huge prizes!
Meeting amazing people in the bizz who're doing (a) the most radical stuff imaginable, or (b) projects just like mine. Either way it's just about the best "kick in the seat of the pants" creativity-wise that I can think of
So hey, I think I've plugged it enough. Now, why don't you attend?
Just head on over to the user group web-site and drop an e-mail to Glenn. He'll add your name to the list that's sent out whenever a meeting's set (usually middle of the month, on a Saturday morning).
Look forward to seeing you there!
...and if that ain't incentive enough, then there's always Lox bagels, muffins, and drinks!
