A great deal of thought went into the user interface and navigation method used. Subtle text labels
are used on-screen to show actions possible in each view. The
context sensitive mouse cursor changes according the users actions. There's also a "building map"
that allows the user to jump anywhere in the building at anytime. Finally, if the user does encounter problems,
help information and guidance was always easily accessible.
The first edition of the showcase was published in 1998 and was an instant success. Apart
from gaining recognition for the work of the multimedia team, the interest generated *tripled*
the number of customer leads. It was estimated that the CD ultimately lead to over 1 million
pounds worth of new business being won.
Following this success, three further editions were published. The CD title was
changed to "The Course Planning Guide and Multimedia Showcase" as it also included
the company's entire training course catalogue taken from the web-site.
