Fire Core training amounted to over two hours run-time of courseware. It consisted of a number of individual modules dealing with themes including "Emergency Procedures", "Fire Extinguishers" and "Causes and Prevention of Fires."

As the subject matter in these modules dealt largely with practical skills ('soft skills'), the training material needed to be very rich in multimedia content. So the training included 3D and 2D graphics, video, audio and animated 3D characters. These characters were used extensively in the training to illustrate 'real-life' scenarios and hazardous situations.

Behind all this rich media content were key instructional objectives for Fire Core, continuously measured during the training course and in a series of paced assessments. The students success in achieving the objectives (as recorded by Pathware), meant that by the end of the course there was a complete and accurate record of their entire session.

This made it straightforward for training administrators to determine when the mandatory level of competence in Fire Core had been achieved by the student. It also gave the student the ability to structure their learning so they could concentrate more on topics they found difficult.
